A trainee receiving certificate after one week Specialized Goat farming training programme
Ludhiana, July 25, 2017 (Online News Ludhiana): Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana has organized one week “Specialized Goat farming” training programme from 18.07.2017 to 24.07.2017.


Dr. Rajesh Kasrija and Dr Khushpreet Singh, Coordinators of the course informed that a total of 25 trainees, including seven women trainees from different parts of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh have participated in this training programme. Technical knowledge on latest nutritional and health management, housing, effective first aid management, vaccination, deworming, breed improvement, value addition of milk, reproductive and seasonal management were provided. Trainees were also imparted theoretical, as well as practical know-how of Goat rearing and hands-on-practice on recording basic vital parameters like rectal temperature, respiration rate, restrain, calculating age of Goats with dentition will be made.

Dr S K Kansal, Professor and HoD apprised that Veterinary varsity is organizing training programmes round the year for livestock farmers, which can prepare a trainee to become good entrepreneur in the field of Dairy, Poultry, Goat, Pig or Fish farming. For getting admission in to these courses, farmer has to fill a form first, which can be obtained from Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education. Next training on Goat farming will be held from 01.08.2017 at GADVASU for those farmers who could not make it to this training.

Dr. H. K. Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU said that diversification of livestock sector is moving at a very fast pace, where in, the Veterinary University is always working to improve the socio-economic status of the livestock owners by providing them with recent inputs. He added that Goat farming is getting momentum in the state as rural youth especially farm women are taking lead by getting training from Veterinary University. Goat is ATM and a mobile bank for the poor farmers as it can be milk and sold any time for their benefit.
